Biodiversity protection and enhancement focuses on preserving and restoring the natural environment in our region. Our network in this area, including the Manawatū River Source to Sea (S2S), is working together to improve the health of the Manawatū River catchment—the area of land where rainwater and streams flow into the Manawatū River. We aim to protect and increase native birds, insects, and plants, while also improving the river's water quality.

Source to Sea Collective (S2S)
“Manawatū River Source to Sea” is an integrated network of biodiversity-focused initiatives, including sustainable business activities and other nature-related activities that collectively contribute to the enhancement of biodiversity and provide benefits to the Manawatū River Catchment community. Thier mission is to collaborate and connect with the Manawatū River Catchment community in a manner that drives the enhancement of biodiversity and the parallel development of a sustainable extended nature-based experience from source to sea. Ruahine Kiwi Project
Ruahine Kiwi is a partnership between ENM’s Manawatū River Source to Sea Collective and Te Kāuru Eastern Manawatū River Hapū Collective with the vision of returning North Island eastern brown kiwi to the southern Ruahine. We do this through intensive control of mustelids on a landscape scale, with our trap network covering 23,000ha. We work in strong collaboration with tangata whenua, local farmers and volunteers. We actively seek to educate and inform individuals and diverse groups of our work and how they can make a positive impact on our rohe.
