The Environment (Disestablishment of Ministry for the Environment) Amendment Bill was presented to Parliament last week and passed its first reading. The process is progressing at speed, with submissions to the Select Committee open until 4pm on 11 March 2026.

PNCC is promoting a local bill to amend the Palmerston North Reserves Empowering Act 1966. The amendment would bring Huia Street Reserve within this Act, enabling Council to sell the land in future.

Palmerston North City Council wants to create an environment and culture change that enables people to choose cycling more often.
