Whiowhio Hut is New Zealand's only urban tramping hut, standing at the approximate halfway point of Te Araroa and Tour Aotearoa. Cyclists and hikers traveling these routes donate koha which supports conservation and restoration work in the Ruahine Ranges; activities like predator trapping and pine removal. The hut owners educate travellers about the flora, fauna and ecology in the areas they are passing through.
