The Shannon Kai Hub is focused on community-led development and responding to the needs of the community. This includes receiving and gifting free food, operating an affordable op shop for both locals and visitors, exploring kai sovereignty initiatives, and providing various services. The hub continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of the community.
Establishment Stages: Ngā Māra Hapori ki Hanana
This partnership community garden project includes establishing gardens throughout the community, running workshops, hosting crop swaps, and maintaining a seed bank. The hub also actively engages with the local council on matters of kai resilience and advocates for the inclusion of food security in civil defence emergency management planning.
