Sea spurge (Euphorbia paralias) was first seen in New Zealand in 2012, and appears to be slowly spreading. This invasive weed would seriously impact our coastal environments if it became established. Biosecurity New Zealand, the Department of Conservation and local councils are working together on early detection and eradication. A single plant was recently identified at Himatangi Beach. This plant had not seeded, and appears to be an isolated individual. If sighted, don't touch (the sap is harmful). Report to the MPI Biosecurity NZ Exotic Pest and Disease hotline 0800 80 99 66 as soon as possible.
