Palmerston North City Council is proposing some changes for how Huia Street Reserve, on the corner of Park Road and Fitzherbert Avenue Palmerston North, might be used in the future.
Council’s preferred option is to enable the sale or development of the reserve for housing. To achieve this, it will be necessary to amend the Palmerston North Reserves Act 1992 and/or the Palmerston North Reserve Empowering Act 1996, and the District Plan.
ENM is not in favour of this option, submitting instead that the land be kept as a reserve, and used for the future development of an Enviro Centre. The ENM committee drafted a submission to this effect, which was revised in response to further member group feedback. ENM's submission, and that of our member group the Railway Land Action Group, may be viewed at the links to the right.
Submissions on this proposal closed on Monday 10 February 2020; Council will hear submissions on 12 August.
