Join your fellow kaitiaki for a day of connection and skill-sharing. Pest animals wreak havoc on the native plants and bird species of the Ruahine. Every stoat, possum and rat trapped does immeasurable good for the health and diversity of our native forests and their inhabitants.

Pest Fest presents a wide-ranging overview of the past and present pest management efforts in the Ruahine, as well as practical knowledge you can use, from your back garden to the back blocks.

  • Robert Gibb and Jess Fancy of the Southern Ruahine Kiwi Project and a representative from Mauri Oho will speak on the exciting developments and new technologies being implemented to control animal pests in the Ruahine.
  • Chris Wootton, Senior Wild Animals Advisor from DoC will speak on the challenges presented by deer and other browsing pests.
  • Sian Cass of Horizons will speak on her role in supporting community groups and individuals in their pest control efforts
  • Trapping expert John Bissell will present an engaging, in-depth workshop on pest animal trapping in the afternoon.
  • Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Bring your burning questions and passion for nature for a day of connection, learning and skill sharing.
