Clean-up Day at Awapuni

Sep 15th 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Paneiri Park - Maxwells Line, Awapuni, Palmerston North 4412

As part of Keep New Zealand Beautiful Cleanup Week and World Cleanup Day, ENM and Manawatu River Source to Sea are partnering with Palmerston North City Council to collect rubbish below the Awapuni recycling centre.

This is part of a global litter pick-up initiative. World Clean-up Day takes place on Saturday 15 September aims to have 5 per cent of the population collecting litter. Manawatu River Source to Sea are calling for local people to take action to protect our wildlife and waterways.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful are providing bags and gloves for volunteers. PNCC staff will be on hand with shelter, litter pick-up sticks, water and transport to shuttle volunteers from the meeting point to the event location. They’ll also remove the recycling for processing where possible, and dispose of the rubbish.

Volunteer registration is 1.30pm in the Paneiri Park car park.

Volunteers will be briefed and then shuttled to the clean-up site. Sturdy footwear should be worn and under 18’s need to be supervised due to the proximity to deep water. If you have thick/leather gardening gloves please bring them as there are lots of blackberries.

Email Julia for more information.

Volunteers as well as the general public are invited to come along to PNCC's Koanga Spring Bonfire that evening, at nearby Ahimate Beach by the river, with food trucks and music on offer.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful has a spreadsheet of cleanup events throughout New Zealand during the week of September 10-16. More than a dozen are planned for the Manawatu. Check the website to find one in your area.
