LOAVES are a community currency (“local dollars”), a bit like local multi-business vouchers. They're centred in Ashhurst and the Pohangina Valley but open for any person or business to use. If you want to demonstrate a commitment to small, local businesses, get behind new and cooperative ways to develop community resilience, and raise a challenge to our planet-depleting, extractive, growth-oriented global economy, buy and use some LOAVES! To find out more, visit the website.
To promote LOAVES for Christmas shopping, a raffle is being organised by LEAP (the volunteer-based not-for-profit behind LOAVES). To enter the raffle, just purchase 50 LOAVES for 50 dollars. You can then spend LOAVES at face value at participating businesses. Raffle prizes include earth-friendly donations: plants from Edible Garden, permaculture design advice from Slow Farm, natural self-care products from Kereru Natural Products, Cartwheel Creamery artisan cheese, a bonus 50 LOAVES from LEAP, and more. Raffle winners will be drawn at noon at the 9 December Ashhurst Community Christmas market. No need to be present to win.
LOAVES can be purchased at the market on Saturday 11 November or 9 December, and also--from 1 November through 8 December--at The Dollar Gallery on Cambridge Ave.
