Carrying Our Future

Carrying our Future is an open group for people concerned about the use of single use plastic bags in Palmerston North. There are viable alternatives to single use plastic bags that are good for people, kind to the environment, and which avoid waste, while still enabling a convenient solution for retailers and their customers. The group aims to enable this positive change by working constructively with the community, local businesses and others at the local and national level, to identify challenges and to share and celebrate success stories.

Carrying Our Future's current activities:

A reusable bag deposit scheme based in the Palmerston North City Library entrance on George Street (in collaboration with SuperGrans, PNCC, MenzShed, Massey University, Volunteer Resource Centre and a group of local businesses including Mitre 10 and Curtains2U).

The establishment of a New Zealand Product Stewardship Council.

“Plastic Bag Free Fridays on George”, a weekly initiative with retailers on George St. in Palmerston North, encouraging the use of reusable bags.

Educational Community Presentations / Seminars.
